Die Ateliers der Bielefelder Künstler/innen waren trotz zahlreicher anderer Kunstevents wieder eine attraktive Adresse Kunst vor Ort kennenzulernen und zu erwerben. 55 Vereinsmitglieder nahmen teil.
2003 2003 the Open studios were again on one weekend. The guestland was the Netherlands. 25 Mitglieder des Vereins waren mit großformatigen Bannerfahnen am Projekt "Textur 21" der Bielefeld Marketing beteiligt.
2002 2002 the Open studios was on two weekends. But on the second weekend not very much people come. The guestland was Tschechien.
2001
Artists and organisers remember the exchange with Belgium in 2001 particularly when reflecting on the event from an atmospheric aspect.
12 Open studios members designed a special calender for a pupils farm in Bielefeld-Ummeln.
2000
The Open studios takes place for the tenth time in the year 2000, in this reason they published a CD-ROM, with text, all catalogs in PDF-file and some movies from the past years. Austauschland war Griechenland. Die Gegenausstellung in Griechenland im Jahr 2001 blieb in sehr guter Erinnerung.
1999 1999 was a year which saw two important projects go on outside the normal boundaries of the event . The first thing is that Offene Ateliers is on the internet and the other is that we have taken over the support of the StadtzeichnerIn-Projekt ( town graphic recordist). The first artist to do this work was Pascale Ansu Graebener who with her brush , pen and pencil technique documented life in the town of Bielefeld , both public and semi-public, for a whole year.
1998
Artists and organisers remember the exchange with Finland in 1998 particularly when reflecting on the event from an atmospheric aspect : for the first time Offene Ateliers-Cafes were open for weary visitors to refresh themselves.
1997 There was a colour catalogue in 1997 again, in which we introduced our guests from Austria, with the emphasis on photography. We were for the first time able to utilise the rooms of the Bielefelder Kunstvereins which combined its annual art festival with Offene Ateliers. This collaboration resulted in a productive cooperation in the years to come.
1996
One of the most interesting but most difficult exchanges was the first intercontinental one, with Africa in 1996. Ten artists from Namibia were asked to exhibit their work within the framework of Open studios. Thanks to a small number of sponsors we were able to finance the journeys of two artists to stay in Bielefeld (contact had to be made by Namibian radio as there were no other available channels of communication.). 1996 saw Open studios in the new organisational form of an association , a “Verein “. This step was neccesary to ensure a certain continuity in the planning and to secure a financial footing . It proved to be a step in the right direction in the course of the next years.
1995
Through our work together with the various cultural institutions and galleries in Bielefeld we were able to invite a large number of international guests in the years 1994 and 1995: 14 from Italy in 94 , 8 ( ! ) from Wales in 95 .
1994 By 1994 Open studios had become an institution, albeit in a chronic financial state as it supported itself only from its members‘ subscriptions. Sponsors and benefactors were few and far between. This year's catalogue came out in black and white but it had for the first time a DIN A4 format , which we have retained till today. The exchange partner was Italy, * taking advantage of * following * the federal state of Northrhine Westphalia's cooperation with the “Via Italia“ project.
1993
The complex but moreover expensive presentation in the form of a book unfortunately could not be repeated in 1993. Instead, a cooperation developed with the local weekly Stadtblatt, led to the publication of a city guide and info material on the Open studios. At the same time, the idea was born to publish a catalogue in the form of a collection of postcards, whereby each of the artists designed their own card. (In 1997 and 1999 the Stadtblatt devoted us a special edition and so enabled the people of Bielefeld to access our art in greater numbers ). The exchange with Poland is still one of the most interesting projects we have had and the return exchange especially was met with ethusiasm by the artists from Bielefeld.
1992 In 1992 we dared approach the ambitious project of producing a four colour pocket-size catalogue - a departure from the homespun image from 1991.
It was in this year that the first international exchange took place, partner being the Lorrainien city of Nancy. A jury was also brought into play to deal with the ammount of applicants. This idea, however, was abandoned for the following years, true to the conceptual idea of openness
1991 It was in 1991 that artists in Bielefeld first opened their studio doors to an interested public.
What set the ball rolling was the contact through an exchange project between Artists Unlimited and an artists group in the Bastille quarter of Paris which had been organising Open Studios for years.
Artists Unlimited members were so impressed by this concept of delivering art that they adopted the idea for themselves and were able to arrouse the interest of other artists from Bielefeld too.
The excersise was also responsible for the great interest among the people of Bielefeld; in the meantime the action has become an integeral part of the Summer Cultural Programme
